NEM 3.0 reshaped the math in 2023 — pure solar without storage takes 9–12 years to pay back now. Battery-paired systems are the new normal: store cheap mid-day production, use it during peak evening rates, capture the spread yourself.
The 30% federal credit ended for cash and loan installs at the end of 2025, but TPO leases retain it through 2032 under Section 48E. The lessor captures it; you see it as a lower monthly payment.
